Two weeks ago, I recommended to the County Council that beginning July 1, we restore a portion of the 1% pay and 1% 401(k) that was reduced when the recession hit. Unfortunately, last week, we received some updated revenue projections which caused the Council to hesitate in providing that pay and 401(k) restoration on a permanent basis.
After discussions with employee organizations, I recommended to the Salt Lake County Council and it has approved a one-time employee recognition payment of $550.00 for the following full time employees effective July 1, 2011:
·Full time merit employees (Status 2)
·Provisional (Status 4)
·Time Limited Appointed (Status 12)
·Reserve Deputy (Status 94)
·Employees in the above that are redlined or at the top of their salary range
The Council has approved part time employees to receive a pro-rated portion of the $550.00 equivalent to the FTE approved for their position:
·Part time merit employees (Status 8 & 9)
·Part time - time limited employees (Status 12)
The following employees are not eligible to receive the performance increase:
·Elected officials (Status 97)
·Appointed officials (Status 95)
·Temporary (Status 5)
·Probationary employees (Status 3)
·Employees whose last performance evaluation was unsatisfactory (numerical score less than 1.86)
The Council did not approve of any restoration of employees’ 401(k) or salary restorationbecause of the ongoing negative effect it would have had on our budget. Further discussions regarding restoration of 401k or compensation will be discussed in the budget hearings scheduled for later in the fall of 2011.
Eligible employees will see the employee performance recognition payment on their paycheck of July 5, 2011. I appreciate all you have done during this recession to serve our citizens.
